For the duration of 2013 I was exploring how different dietary plans and restrictions could effect my body, mind, social life, and spiritual growth. By appropriating and inventing rules that limited and changed my routine on the fundamental level of food consumption, I forced myself into new situations and created unusual interactions on a daily basis.
List of diets:
January - Vegetarianism
February - Atkins
March - Kosher
April - Gluten Free
May - Raw Vegan
June - Mediterranean
July - The Broken Jaw Diet (Only ate through a straw)
August -
The Q Diet (Only foods/drinks that start with 'Q')
September - Freegan (Can't pay for food)
October - Dietary Subordination (Recieved grocery list and eating schedule daily from random acquaintance through text messages)
November - The Thanksgiving Diet (Only quintessential thanksgiving food, only in the company of others)
December - The Nutraloaf Diet (Tasteless nutritional loaf given to Illinois prisoners in solitary confinement, eaten by myself)
In addition to gathering lots of video documentation of process and interactions, everything that goes into and comes out of my body had to be photographed. I am working on visualizing some of this data in charts:
